Bring Design to Life

“The price of freedom is steep.”
ARTIST STATEMENT
Tashya Jackson was born and raised in Houston, Texas and is an aspiring young artist. At an early age, she was passionate about design and dance. With these passions, Tashya explores creative expression within the different art forms of design and dance. Through her time at PVAMU, she gained many skills pertaining to illustration, photography, augmented reality, motion graphics, and more. She began experimenting with the different concepts of design through Augmented Reality and quickly adapted to a new world of the design process. In addition to this, she also became the Vice President of the dance team, Lockz N Keyz. Through this organization, Tashya has been able to live out her passion for dance in Korean culture through Korean pop music. She has shown resilience and hard work, balancing her degree in digital media arts while also expressing herself through dance.
THESIS STATEMENT
Design is defined as a plan or specification for creating an object, system, activity, or process. The design process aims to produce either a plan, prototype, or product. Dancers are well known for the flow of movement of their bodies and artistically showcasing their talent through music by allowing the lyrics or rhythms of a song to translate into steps, sways, jumps, etc. Dance may be known as a performing art, yet it goes hand in hand with design and the design process. Augment reality (AR) is described as an interactive experience that enhances the real world with computer-generated perceptual information. The key factors real-time interactivity, three- dimensionality, and the integration of the virtual world with the real world, create the ability to make an immersive environment.
The purpose of this project is to discuss how dance can be put into a designer’s perspective and show how to interpret digital programming to translate into live performance. Design in dance can refer to where the bodies move and how the space is used. Similar to how, in the design process, a problem must be defined, and information is collected to develop a product. In both instances, different routines or processes create a result. Each process is structured the same yet created differently to make a unique experience with both. This is why my project explores a different approach to design with augmented reality and using photographs to make a dance sequence come to life. Using the elements of dance and putting them into a designer’s perspective by working with photography and augmented reality design.
Artivive is an augmented reality app where designers can overlay digital content onto real-life environments and objects, such as photographs and artwork. Through AR design, users can have an interactive experience that will complement their view of photography by joining videos of dance sequences with digital content.
