Kylon Haley

Kylon Haley is drawn to the character-driven world of storytelling. His inspiration comes from shows like “The Boondocks,” “The Pjs” and “Proud Family” along with live action dramas like “The Wire” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” He appreciated how each show took a unique approach to display Black life and various aspects of the culture while also willing to give honest feedback on some of shortcomings. With his work, Haley informs the reader on a selected topic or helps them think more with an open mind.
His plot ideas come from historical events that are typically overlooked or overshadowed. Creative writing with great visuals allows messages to communicate more effectively than more traditional ways of learning. Haley is currently working on the upcoming comic, Amanirenas. With this project, he is looking into the perspective of a warrior queen from ancient South Sudan taking on the most powerful nation in the world at the time, Rome. In this comic, everything from actual names to military tactics used at the time are mentioned allowing the reader to learn while also being entertained. Haley wants to continue to grow in his craft and eventually produce animated series and movies to make a larger impact.
