“I vowed then that if I made it, I would never turn my back
on any black person who came to me for advice and
information and who really wanted to learn.” -Dorothy Hayes

THESIS STATEMENT
As a Black designer, I am deeply committed to using my work as a tool for connection and empowerment. This thesis reflects that commitment. A visual platform created to celebrate the complexity and beauty of Black identity.
Too often, Black people are viewed through a narrow lens. Through design, curated events, and community engagement, I aim to widen that lens and create space for authenticity, expression, and joy. Beyond the Monolith lives primarily on Instagram, supported by a monthly newsletter. It serves as a hub for highlighting Black owned businesses, creative voices, and events that reflect our collective brilliance.
This project is not just about aesthetics it is about intention and representation. It’s an invitation for Black people to see themselves. It is also a thank you to the community that raised me, reminding us all that we are limitless.
