BAKED GOODS
Pop-UP Shop
The BAKEDGOODS pop-up shop is a senior thesis project that investigates the tension between cultural authenticity and commercialization within contemporary streetwear. Streetwear began as a form of creative self-expression rooted in youth culture, neighborhood identity, and resistance to mainstream fashion systems. It served as a vehicle for storytelling, community bonding, and the communication of individuality. However, over time, streetwear has been absorbed by large corporations and fast fashion brands, which have commodified and diluted its original cultural meaning for mass consumption. This shift raises critical questions about ownership, authenticity, and the role of design in shaping culture.

BAKEDGOODS positions design as a form of cultural intervention that uses a temporary pop-up environment to reconnect streetwear with its origins. The project creates a space that functions simultaneously as a retail experience and a cultural installation, emphasizing narrative, spatial design, and user engagement. Visitors are invited to experience streetwear not just as clothing, but as a reflection of self-expression, creativity, and community values. The design highlights the importance of individuality, independence, and the rejection of trends, fostering an immersive environment where style carries meaning beyond aesthetics.

The project draws inspiration from informal street economies and hustle-driven, self-made cultures, where creativity, resourcefulness, and limited access to traditional systems shaped how identity and value were expressed. Through the pop-up, BAKEDGOODS illustrates how design can reclaim authenticity. It challenges visitors to reflect on what streetwear represents today, encouraging engagement with the cultural practices, attitudes, and ingenuity that originally defined it. Ultimately, the project demonstrates how design can operate as a thoughtful critique, a platform for cultural storytelling, and a space where fashion and community intersect in meaningful ways.
